I love this - sometimes I wonder why I do this and then I remember - I LOVE PEOPLE! I LOVE HELPING and bringing people together. I want to stay away from people that use "AUTO-FOLLOW" scripts and sell me stuff with a DM. They seem to be the same "playground bullies" we all didnt like in grade school.

With Twitter follows I use Topify to screen out spammers and self promotionalists - new word :). But I also go through my stream every so often and click on avatars I don't recongise "noticing" for a while. See their latest 20 or so tweets and unfollow those that I don't find useful. Tweetie on the Mac so easy and quick to do that.

I find it disappointing when you follow someone in their (relatively) early Twitter times and then with some spammy sign ups they turn into follow-fiends, rather than giving value and wanting to interact.

I can follow around 250 people who are good tweeters, then the rest are either family and friends who aren't prolific or feeds etc. If I feel it's getting too much I go back and unfollow a few people to keep it manageable.

Hey Max

Don't auto follow all the people who follow you just because they follow you, but you can use that tool to follow people based on keywords, I use it to follow people who talk to me as I don't always have time to check out all new followers especially with the huge influx of spammers lately it seems like a 10 to 1 spammer to real ratio at the moment.

This tool gives a courtesy (auto) follow to anyone that engages you.

And no this wasn't the thrust of the post the thrust of the post was 'Get Social' and interact which some people including myself had let slip away.

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

You wrote:

"One way, Don’t auto follow! "

And this seemed to be the thrust of your post. Yet in the very next paragraph you encourage pepole to auto follow and give a link to a service that will allow this.

Huh?!

Whenever I get a new follower on Twitter, I take time to see their updates before I even think about following back. What is really annoying me right now is the people who have;

1 update (Spam)
2 followers
342 following.

It's a tell-tale sign of someone trying to make money out of twitter.

Nice post, we need to go back to basics.
